One is happiest who has the power to gather wisdom from a flower.

Ubi mel, ibi apes.

Each artwork is an expression of collaboration between humans and honeybees. I provide them with a year-round structure and health needs. They forage for nectar and convert it to honey then wax through enzymes of their two stomachs. Each worker honeybee draws out their own wax and then working in teams, build the wax comb foundation. I then collect the wax and deconstruct it into pieces. These pieces are then arranged with natural found objects and put back into a modified chamber within the hives. A mixture of sugar-water and honey is used to stimulate the honeybees to rework the wax into unique forms and assemblages. After days-to-weeks-to-months, they attach the wax to the canvas surface. The panels are then taken out and excess debris is removed. Some panels include gold leaf, which is worked into the wax by the honeybees. Inspired by the structure and function of DNA, notions of history, myths, allegory and figures lay behind each work.
